If by Rudyard Kipling

(this piece was used during the 1st Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA)Regional Conventional last September 4, 2011 at University of Mindanao, Tagum City....)

If you can keep your head when all about you

 Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
 If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
 But make allowance for their doubting too;
 If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
 Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
 Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
 And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

 If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
 If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
 If you can meet with triumph and disaster
 And treat those two imposters just the same;
 If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
 Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
 Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
 And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

 If you can make one heap of all your winnings
 And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
 And lose, and start again at your beginnings
 And never breath a word about your loss;
 If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
 To serve your turn long after they are gone,
 And so hold on when there is nothing in you
 Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

 If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
 Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
 If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
 If all men count with you, but none too much;
 If you can fill the unforgiving minute
 With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
 Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
 And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Mr. H. Crim..^_^

..Pwede pala talaga ang ganitong pakiramdam?
Tatlong araw ko lang siyang nakasama at nakita, pero bakit ganito na ang nararadaman ng puso ko?
Pakiramdam na tunay na bago sa akin…
Tipong, TRULY I’D NEVER FELT LIKE THIS BEFORE…
Sad to say, the time I spend with him is too limited…
But I know God has plans for me, or should I say, for us…
All I know for now is that MEETING SOMEONE LIKE HIM IS INDEED A BLESSING IN DISGUISE…J
I miss his smiles, simple glimpse and stares at me…
If it is God’s will, we will meet again in some other time in the future…
Uncertain, limited possibility and could be considered remote, yet, I still believe…J

A VERY SHOCKING NEWS...

AJ Perez, or Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez in real life, was pronounced dead at "12:20 a.m."

AJ's mom Victoria was still reeling from shock when she spoke to Ogie via phone. Her words, according to Ogie's tweet: "Tinanong ko si dadi, bat ang tagal nilang umuwi? Pauwi na raw sila from Dagupan, pero nag-aalala pa rn ako, d ko alam kumbakit balisa ako."

The Star Magic talent just finished his show in Dagupan, Pangasinan, which celebrated its annual Bangus Festival.

Here's the rest of Ogie's reports via @ogiediaz:

FILIPINO YOUTH AIMS TO PLANT 1M TREES IN ONE YEAR

Young Filipinos have pledged to plant 1 million trees across the country in one year.

The youth ministry of the Couples for Christ (YFC-CFC) has initiated a nationwide drive for the conservation of the environment.

Dubbed “Greeneration” the national movement will launch the crusade to plant 1M trees on April 12-14 in Camiguin.

The year-round campaign, one of the many activities lined up in celebration of the CBCP Year of the Youth, will involve all the regions in the country, as well as schools, universities, out of school youth and possibly even those in prison.

The tree-planting will take place in the different dioceses and provinces, following the prescribed months for planting per region, as they may differ region to region.

Young people are starting to plant in some areas like Basilan, where the prelature of Isabela planted mangrove trees.

Aside from local youth ministers in the dioceses and parishes, groups like Focolare, YFC-CFC, CARE Foundation and other youth organizations are committing to see that the millionth tree gets planted.

Organizers believes that the effort to protect the environment should go beyond the Year of the Youth, transcending the idea of plant a seedling for a one-day event and then forgetting about it eventually.

Diana Cajilog of Baguio, a member of CFC-Singles for Christ, one of the youth ministries taking on the cause of the 1 million trees, said that more important than just planting is to make sure the plant grows into a tree.

"I don't advocate tree-planting; I advocate tree-growing. It is not enough that we plant, we need to make sure the trees thrive and recover," she said.

Youth’s community involvement

The CBCP declared 2011 as the "CBCP Year of the Youth" with the intention of encouraging young people to "establish and strengthen the youth's relationship with Christ... and to encourage community involvement."

Going against the popular perception of the Church as inward-looking, the Year of the Youth or YOTY aims to reach out, not just to young Catholics but to all young people, regardless of religious beliefs.

Fr. Conegundo Garganta, the Executive Secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) explains the reason why the Church wants to reach all young people and not just Catholics.

"The ECY hopes to celebrate its anniversary, not focusing on itself but on the youth, the object and subject of its existence... (Also) because it is the mission of the Church to reach out to all people," he said.

The YOTY was declared on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the CBCP-ECY, the commission that is in charge of youth ministry in the Philippines. (Nirva'ana Delacruz/CBCPNews))

PRIDE (2007) : a movie review

PRIDE

Pride (2007)

1)     At first, what differences that Jim Ellis suffer during his college days as a swimmer?

In the first part of the movie, Jim Ellis suffered from racial discrimination during his college days as a swimmer. It was depicted the common scenario Black American experiences in succeeding in any event because it is largely dominated by white people. Aside from that he can hardly find a job and always stumbles into teaching mostly because the color of his skin prevents him from finding a job that puts his mathematics degree to use. He is treated less favorably because of his race as a Black American. He is being discriminated due to his black skin.

2)     What was the motive of Jim why he insisted the boys and girl to be his swim team?

After converting an abandoned recreational pool hall in Philadelphia, city officials mark the new Philadelphia Department of Recreation for demolition, Jim fights back--by starting the city’s first African-American swim team. As he had seen the potential of the group of black teens, after having thrown off the basketball court in the center’s yard, he also wanted to restore the paths of these kids and help them out to use their talents and mold them to become prideful of being what they are in spite of being black in color.

3)     What does his team stands when the Barracudas Team walkout from their house?

They stand for PDR, their house. They stand against racial discrimination and for their rights to be respected also by the white people. It is not because they are black that they must not be treated fairly.

4)     What does coach Jim inspiring words before they left PDR for a competition?

After putting himself into suspension as the PDR’s coach for the competition, he left his swimmers this inspiring words for them to ponder upon with, “You got each other, ‘cause in the end, that’s all you really have. And you got you’re captain, Andre. You see, we’ve been chasing dreams for so many, many years. But tomorrow, you’ll all get an opportunity to fulfill some of those dreams. YOU and the LETTERS that stand for this place. You stand for PDR. But what does it mean to us? Pride, determination and resilience. That's what's brought all these people together. You've given them something to believe in. Because this is our community. This is our house. And it's built on pride, determination and resilience. Just pride, determination and resilience.

5)     What was the team’s courage in order for them to catch the championship?

The team’s courage is their realization that achieving success is not based on the color of the skin, but on PDR (pride, determination and resilience). Aside from that I also believe that it is their honor, willpower and spirit to win. Just like what Andre said, “The anchor's got to have the biggest heart.” you must have put you heart on the game, be serious about it and most especially, you most love what you are doing. It is their Pride, Determination and Resilience that brings them to the top and brings home the bacon for the pride of all people with black skin.

6)     Relate to yourself the statement of Coach Jim Ellis the meaning of PDR:

Pride

-           This is about my own dignity to be protected with. This is thing that my highest sense of personal’s status and ego leading me to judgments of my personality and molds my own character. This should be protected by me because this is what my self-reflection leads me to.

Determination

         Just like the black teens, I must have the determination to win even if it is against all odds. As popularly quoted, “overcome the obstacles before they overcome before you”, if I wanted to achieve something better for my self, for the people around me and for God, I should not be afraid to go on and that I should hold on to grip my self up because it is only me who can help myself in determining my own failures and success.

Resilience

         I should have the ability to tolerate disturbances without me collapsing or should I say without any hesitation in my back. Even after a fall, I must have the willpower and spirit to rebuild my self and no to rebuke myself for the things that I haven’t done or the things that I didn’t succeed to, instead, just like Coach Jim and the swimmers did, I also have to improve myself as possible and look at the horizon as a new chance for me. I should not give up. I should have the courage, toughness and strength to move on and become a better person as I learned my lessons from every experience I have.
